On wednesday, September 10th, our country was shaken by two devastating acts of violence on school grounds: a shooting at Evergreen High School in Colorado, and the assassination of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Lives were senselessly taken; parents lost children, and children lost their parent. As our nation mourns, we’re reminded of an undeniable truth: No matter who you are, where you live, or what you believe—you deserve to feel safe. No one should have to live in fear of gun violence.

September 11th: Remembering What’s Possible When We Unite

This week's tragedies took place a day before September 11th. In the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks, Americans came together—across politics and backgrounds—to support one another and rebuild. That spirit of solidarity was powerful.

Today, we need the same collective urgency to address the gun violence epidemic. Because this crisis doesn’t make national headlines just once a year—it happens every day in communities across America. But here’s the thing: gun violence is preventable.

Action Is How We Move Forward

At Artist For Action, we believe grief and despair can be transformed into positive change for the future. Together with our partner organization Sandy Hook Promise, we’re working to protect our collective right to safety, and to ensure public spaces are places of peace.

Here’s what you can do today:

  • Know the Warning Signs: Learn to recognize the early signals of potential violence. Share them with your community. Education saves lives.

  • Support Victims & Survivors: Trauma-informed resources and healing programs are essential for those impacted by gun violence.

  • Talk to Kids: These conversations are hard—but silence helps no one. Honesty, reassurance, and presence matter.

  • Raise Your Voice: Share resources. Organize. Vote for leaders who support evidence-based gun violence prevention.

  • Donate to support Sandy Hook Promise's life-saving gun violence prevention work.
